You’re 17 and ready for your first car. Sadly, your parents (who are very supportive/respectful of your creativity and individuality) will only allow you to have one vehicle and it must be brand new and below $150,000 .
What car would you and your parents agree to purchase?
On a side note, the Model X was a pretty clever choice.

Below 150k for a first car? Geez.
Obvious answer is some generic sedan. Nothing too insane to run, insure, and nothing that will turn your 17 year old kid into a F&F stunt driver
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:06 |
|
Easy. ‘Vette Z06 sans Z07 package.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:07 |
|
Who’s the douchey kid in the picture?
Anyways, I’d get an XC90 T8 R-Design.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:07 |

Holy crap. I was about to say a Mazda 2 because I thought your stipulation was less than $15k.
Back to the research.

Camry.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:08 |

You’re the 17 year old though. What car would you try for from your two actor parents?
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:09 |

Jaden Smith, the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

So, did that guy see Zoolander and then decide the evil DJ was a look he should emulate?
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:10 |

I can see parents getting on board with that. “Hey, he didn’t ask for a Ferrari!”
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:11 |
|
Easy:
Save the rest of the money for mods, investments, and college and Chinese takeout.
But maybe if I beg enough, I could swing one of these...
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:11 |
|
Even the most affordable Ferrari isn't affordable enough though
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:11 |

Ah yes, the XSE “Super Limited” trim.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:13 |
|
Probably a Jeep Renegade 1.4T Manual AWD.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:13 |
|
Just a normal Camry.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:13 |
|
Maybe a GTR or G63. But most likely a Ultima Evolution with a 4 rotor. Or a superformance GT40
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:13 |
|
Ha, yep there is a twist to this one. Will Smith’s son just got a ludicrous mode enabled Model X.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:16 |

After double checking the prices I would go with an R8 over the 911 GT3.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:18 |

Nice!
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:19 |

OH...well i read that wrong. I’d go buy myself a P85D.........

Our eyes aren’t real.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:21 |

Ah, that’s who that is. Frankly, I like it that young people do their best to dress like extras from a cheap ‘80s dystopian future sci-fi film.
It makes it easier to know who to avoid.
Serious answer: AMG E63 S wagon. Expensive, foreign, fast, and lots of room for back seat/cargo space lovin’.

The Y61 Nissan Patrol is still being sold in Pakistan & The Philippines. At an average price of $65k Canadian, I can use the remainder of the money to import it, and VIN-swap it with a ‘97 Patrol. And since the Canadian government couldn’t care less about grey-market imports, they’ll never know.

Now that would be one hell of a sleeper

2016 Viper ACR $146,390 built all the way I want.

why
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:28 |

The new XC90 T8 R Design.
Saved parents some money, get a safe volvo, and it looks amazing

A manual F-Type S in BRG with a brown interior, loaded with every confort option and blade wheels for $94,150
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:39 |

Easy. S63 AMG.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:44 |

Chinese takeout is its own budget?! That’s what I’ve been doing wrong...
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:44 |

Agreed!
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:45 |

It was meant to be!
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:48 |

That is the EXACT spec (excluding manual since it wasn’t out yet) I have had saved of the F-type coupe since release. Specifically with those black 20' “Tornado” wheels.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:48 |

RIGHT?!? “Mom! Where is my $150k?!”
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:53 |

Subie Forester XT.
Safe, almost quick, looks decent, automatic transmission, AWD for snow usage. Perfect as a first car for spoiled rich kids.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:53 |

My parents and I would have probably agreed on an X5 or possibly an SQ5—because my parents let me make my own bad decisions.
If it was for me now, with a kid and wife, and I could only have one car? A highly-optioned Mahogany Metallic Porsche Macan Turbo. It’d just barely fit in my $150,000 window (yes, even a car that starts at $76K), but it will include carbon ceramic brakes, PASM, torque vectoring, Sport Chrono, and a bunch of other goodies.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:55 |

British Racing Green is the best color for the F-Type, and I think the V6 is much, much better sounding than the V8.
Also, with 380 hp, is plenty fast and fun without being too much like a Z06 or a 488 GTB
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:57 |
|
And
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:58 |
|
I think if your parents gave you 150k to spend on a car they would also pay for school and food.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 19:59 |

Tesla P90D, natch

Wait.....you mean he’s actually intending to look like that? Cheap ‘80s dystopian film indeed.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:21 |

What?!? It’d be really easy to say I’d have a new Mustang or something even more expensive, but really, all I’d want is this:
Set up like this:
I figure that’d take about $50k. The rest could be invested or sit in a college fund.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:22 |
|
This. Why? Because hoon, and my parents have been getting 3s from the same guy for just about forever.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:23 |

Panoz Esperante. I had a hard time choosing between an Esperante, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and a Dodge Viper. I decided the Esperante is most rare and weird, so it wins.

It’s a Honda Accord. But those are for PLEBS , so you get an Acura. It’s still very safe, and inexpensive to run, but you get to have an Acura .
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:27 |
|
That’s more like it.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:27 |

Yeah. That’s more like it.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:28 |

Risky.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:29 |

Ha. Acura TLX. Is this a joke or something?
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:29 |

You hatin’ on the TLX bro!?
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:31 |

If it were a new car?
That’s the easy part.
I’m glad you didn’t specify used, cause I am conflicted.....
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:32 |

The Mercedes G63 AMG. Easy to convince the parents because its an SUV and therefore must be “Safer.” it Squeaks in after options at $144,000
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:33 |
|
With a $150k budget, I’d rather stretch and get one of these.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:35 |
|
But if I had rich parents, I’d take the TLX and pocket the money.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:37 |

in that case...
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:37 |

Maybe we’re wrong about the cheap......
Mad Max tribute by the young Smith perhaps?

Z06?
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:41 |

Ah good choice, but we’re imagining we live in a badge-snob neighborhood. In those neighborhoods a Honda is a sign of PLEBS.
“Ew did you hear about the Millhouses? They bought a HONDA!”
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:41 |

DUDE THAT STUFF IS THE SHIT. I ate that so much when I was at my grandma’s place in Jeju.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 20:44 |

Yes, which is why I’d be pocketing the leftovers for everything but tuition ;)

Mhm. That’s how I afford General Tso’s every Friday. ;)

A time machine to 1991 and a GMC Syclone. If I’m not allowed a time machine, then a Chevy SS manual and ALL THE MODS.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 21:03 |

Forget the 17 year old thing, this is still what I’d choose (just without the yellow bits). Aston Martin Vantage GT in Alloro Green, with the cloth seats and the 6sp.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 21:10 |

Stealth wealth.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 21:12 |

It is good. I buy cases of it whenever they go on sale. An easy weekend lunch.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 21:20 |

unless that’s a vastly underpowered mustang, you may not need the money for college :)
![]() 02/09/2016 at 21:23 |

Jaden smith comes off as the dumbest kid in the world. of course if my parents were stupid rich and parents trying to give me a movie career so would I.
If it was me it would be Singer 914, or all the craigslist cars within a 10 mile radius.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 21:28 |
|
I’m gonna be weird and say a Subaru Forester XT. Save the rest of the money.
![]() 02/09/2016 at 21:50 |

My 17 year old self would have wanted a Corvette Zr1. My 21 year old self still wants a Corvette Zr1 but I realize that maybe something else would be good too. Perhaps an R8?
![]() 02/10/2016 at 01:54 |

Buy a white V70 Polestar.
Send it back to Polestar and have them do dress up like the 850 from BTCC with the 2 tone blue stripes.
and have them put a BTCC touring car wide body.
Drop in a sequential racing transmission, tune up the motor. Perfection.
